Kate (Reali) Mercer is a New York born photographer with 17 years of experience starting out her career in South Florida as an intern and freelancer for the Miami Herald. During her 13 years working as a staff photographer for The Mobile Press-Register, she covered most of the major news events for this region. Kate has photographed news and feature stories, major hurricanes and the BP Gulf Oil Spill in addition to many other stories of national significance.

Kate’s work has appeared in most major American newspapers, national magazines and many worldwide publications. Some of the events she worked on varied in subject from the Iron Bowl to Presidential Campaigns, LPGA and Musicians like Cher and Paul Simon, but the stories that meant the most to her were the local heroes.

Kate Reali (nee Kate Mercer) has won awards for news, sports and feature photography and photo illustration. She was APME Portfolio winner in 2000 along with Mobile Photographer of the year two consecutive times. She was a member of the Alabama Press Association and the National Press Photographers Association.

From the Photographer:

I’m an artist at heart, as a little girl I dreamt of becoming a painter and after graduating from the Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale with a degree in photography I have spent 17 years as photojournalist in Florida and Alabama, loving every minute of it.  My passion for art lead to my dream job and career as a photographer and mother of four amazing children who I look to for inspiration in capturing life’s simple moments. When they laugh and play I see works of art and grab my camera. Nothing’s better than capturing a child smiling from ear to ear.

Every session I photograph opens me up to a new adventure and a chance to create memories that will last them forever.
